welcome to our website »

The Elaine Milbourne Theatre Dance School offers a vast range of subjects for the performing arts. We have a fantastic team of specialist teachers who create an atmosphere were our pupils can develop in a fun and caring environment.

Our school is beautifully equipped, having 2 purpose made studios with sprung wooden floors/barres and mirrors we also have a dancewear shop and a refreshment area.

The school was established in 1980 by Elaine Milbourne, moving from its original location in Chapel House to Newburn in 2001 and most recently to our current location in Senate House Throckley, Tyne and Wear in 2004.

Since the schools inception we have always been actively involved in the community appearing at events, fetes and in shows. We perform annually with the New Panto Group taking part in the incredibly popular Chapel House Pantomime; we participate in an annual Dance Competition and have performed in theatres across the area as well as Disneyland Paris and Her Majesty's Theatre London.

Throughout the year we enter hundreds of candidates with the IDTA (International Dance Theatres Association) for exams at all levels and we have an enviable reputation and excellent success rate.

What makes the school different is that it offers such a vast range of subjects for students of all abilities and ages, there is something for everyone whether they want to perform or just come along and enjoy a class. Students at EMTDS can train to teaching level and are able to go on to full time performer's college.
